Growing up as a young athlete in Little Rock Arkansas, there was a tendency to follow the crowd and be what was preferred “popular” at the time. This kid had many distractions. Growing and maturing, he learned to place himself in positions to be influenced by people who are now his mentors. Growing up watching his father and mother build and run successful businesses, he knew he could too. Also knowing his grandfathers worked hard and started/ leading many Church of Christ congregations around Arkansas and California. They brought many people to Christ. They are the most influential men he says he's met. His grandmother, Jerome Gilbert had her own cooking business in 1988, "Jerome's Kitchen" with the most delicious soul food recipes. Entrepreneurship was instilled in him. His seriousness increased and became interested in all types of trades while following his father’s footsteps. Realizing what he could be, this kid had a different mindset. That kid was me, Ryan Gilbert, the Founder and President of Different Breed Brand. I started this company at the age of 19. The entrepreneurial mindset came at an early age. Beginning at my local middle school, (Horace Mann) I created my own tie die socks to sell. Being influenced by entrepreneurs in my area and around the country, I knew I could be one myself. My observation skills were set to an all-time high at a young age. I was very intrigued hearing/learning business conversation and negotiations. Different Breed is a brand that is set apart from the rest. A Different Breed is rare, one of a kind. You have to work hard for what you want, and not be driven by “status quo”, but be driven by your goals and aspirations. Strive for what you want and go for it. We want to be different for Christ, studies, occupations, athletics etc... I became proactive, doing so helped develop me into an independent leader. This brand does not only apply to athletics or certain types of careers, but to every aspect of life. Work hard at everything you strive for, set yourself apart, be a Different Breed. Be Different. The legacy lives on.
